What is the history of Tavistock Lodge?

The lodge was built in 1901-02 as part of a summer compound for William Kingsley, a New York banker who became president of the U.S. Trust Company. Recent renovations took place in 2009 and again in 2019. The lodge was previously known as the Kilkenny Lodge before being renamed Tavistock in 2019.

Is Tavistock pet-friendly? 

Yes, there’s even a dog bed in the Great Room. Please keep the furry friends limited to dogs. 

 

Is Tavistock child-friendly? 

Yes, this is a big house with room for the kids to explore.  Plus, there are games and children’s books available. Note that the property is not “baby-proofed.”

 

Does Tavistock have cable tv and internet?

Yes, there is high speed cable internet and streaming TV service.  In addition to wifi, there is a strong cell signal with Verizon.

Any no-no's?

No smoking and no firearms inside the lodge.

Are there bedrooms on the first floor?

All bedrooms are on the second floor.  However, the downstairs library has a sleeper sofa to accommodate guests who cannot navigate the staircase. The total number of guests staying at the Lodge should not exceed 12 even when this sofa is in use.

What if I need snow plowing during my stay? 

Ownership always pays attention to the forecast (they live in Elizabethtown) and will keep the driveway cleared and walkways shoveled.

Are linens and towels provided? 

Yes, linens for each bed are provided, along with towels for 12 guests plus a few extras. For the full list of amenities at the property, click here.

 

How do I get the keys to the property? 

We’ll share that information with you after booking. 

 

What do I do if I need to cancel my reservation? 

You’ll receive instructions after booking.
